About Us

The County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted is a registered charity, founded in 1987, working throughout County Durham with the exception of Darlington. The Society is managed by a Committee of trustees, the majority of whom have sight loss themselves and are service users.

Its purpose is to offer services to the blind and partially sighted with the aim of improving the quality of life of this sector of the community and reducing the sense of isolation experienced by many of the visually impaired.

The Society can offer Visual Impairment Awareness Training for a small fee and can provide transcription of information into Braille or Audio format. Please contact us for charges.

The Society is keen to promote its work for visually impaired people and now provides speakers to give presentations about the effects of sight loss and the work the society undertakes. All we ask is that any interested Group, Society or School make a donation or undertake fundraising in return on our behalf.
